Cabin boy (theoretically - s/he looks kinda androgenous, I guess you can pick? Maybe it's a girl pretending to be a guy. xD though I will refer to as a guy) kid - about 9-10 - often talks to himself cheerfully - random cool ability? If he did have one it would be that he was a latent telepath/empath, if that even works in your world. xD But he doesn't know about it. The talking to himself would be responding to random thoughts in the aether, and he might answer questions before being asked, or finish people's sentences :3

Story:-
He stows away and pleads to be kept on to help out when he is discovered; as such he is an enthusiatic (unfortunately enthusiasm does not mean ability xD) worker because he's desperate for good feedback and not to be kicked out, and says that he's an orphan with nowhere else to go except back to stealing (ie typical sob story. Insert crew skepticalness here, xD). If he does have powers, see above, perhaps the reason they let him stay is that either a) someone recognised the hidden ability and believes it could be an asset or b) the hidden ability was capable of messing with people's emotions or using unconscious mental suggestions jedi-mind-trick wise.

So it turns out he wanted to join on a dare from his older brother and younger sister (he is actually an orphan but the three siblings are looked after well enough by a grandparent) that he would be able to live as an Aero bandit for a short while *thus giving you the excuse to only have him randomly turn up for that short while? xD* Basically at the end of a few weeks or a month or something, he jumps ship at the next port, though he actually really regrets leaving *insert crewmembername here with whom he had a good relationship dynamic, lol ((Thalos oniisan!! xD *shot*))* and they find out that he's leaving but promise not to tell?
